Real Talk is a ridiculously quick way to feel more connected to your colleagues since, you know, we never see each other anymore.

More connection. Less Zoom.

Work from home is here to stay

For all its sweatpants-wearing, endless-snacking, plant-filled benefits, working from home has also taken a toll on our ability to feel close to the people we work with.

Zoom fatigue is real

As much as we all have intentions to reconnect with colleagues, the thought of adding another Zoom meeting to our calendar is emotionally exhausting and not worth the trouble.

 How it works

Step 1: Add Real Talk to Slack.

Step 2: Type /realtalk to generate a question.

Step 3: Reconnect with your colleagues.

Ta-da.

Type. Shuffle. Send.

What people are saying

“Yes, I miss my co-workers. But at the same time, I’m so sick of Zoom calls, and I haven’t been to one of our company happy hours in months. Real Talk has been an incredible way to learn little things about my colleagues that inspire me to reach back out.”

— Stephen Emsley,
CTO, tentree

“We use it every day! It’s our default method for checking in, and it takes the pressure off anyone coming up with questions to reconnect. And even though every on this time knows each other, we’re always learning new and unexpected things.”

— Robin Zander
CEO, Zander Media

“Real Talk has been great in helping us create a connected positive work culture, which was one of our biggest challenges at Radius ever since we started working remote. We all learn about our colleagues everyday because of it.”

— Biju Ashokan,
CEO, Radius

FAQ

What is this thing?

Real Talk is a Slack app that instantly asks an unexpected question to help you get to know your colleagues. Think of it as a sort of team facilitator bot that makes your Slack channel more fun and revealing.

How does it work?

It’s comically simple. Once you’ve installed it, just type /realtalk in any channel, and we’ll automatically generate a question that you never thought to ask your colleagues on Slack.

Try it out on sluggish Mondays, kickoffs, happy hours, new hires, lame meetings, or any time that you are feeling like you want to get a little more connected to your team.

Why Real Talk?

If 2020 was the year that we all started working remotely, 2021 is the year that we’re realizing how disconnected we feel from our remote colleagues. We promise ourselves that we’ll find time to have individual coffees or drinks to catch up with people, but we’re all so Zoom-exhausted that it never happens.

Real Talk was built to be a quick, asynchronous, and unexpectedly fun way to share more about yourself with your team and learn more about them so that we can all feel a bit closer to our colleagues.

What kinds of data do you collect?

As little as humanly possible. We don’t collect any specific information about the content of any messages, and we don’t have access to anyone's answers or any other content inside of your Slack. We do collect some very basic information like "team_id" or "user_id" and whether the question was asked in a DM or a channel, just to help us understand how and where people are asking questions so that we can build a better question-asking experience for you.

Where can I use this?

For now, we’re only available on Slack. But we’re working on getting a version that works for Microsoft Teams as soon as possible!
